Flipkart Or Amazon: Which Is Good For Sellers?

Merchants who sell consumer goods always look for a platform that has a huge audience to maximize the selling potential of their goods and Flipkart or Amazon are like a dream platform for them. However, the sellers have to pay a charge for using both the platform and merchants with not very huge investments may have to choose either of these platforms initially. If you are one such merchant who is juggling between Flipkart or Amazon – as a better and more profitable selling platform – we are here to help you.

But, don't forget both are profitable platforms, and over the years, sellers have filled their pockets with profit after they started selling on Flipkart and Amazon – so, be sure to participate in both in the future.

Flipkart Or Amazon – A Quick Comparison As A Better Selling Platform

To understand the profitability of the sellers on these platforms, we need to compare the process the sellers go through on both these platforms and understand the buyers' perspective too. Let's dive in

1. Registration Process

Flipkart and Amazon come with a pretty similar registration process – interested sellers need to first add their contact details and then complete the OTP verification. Then, by entering GST/PAN details, bank details, fulfillment details, store details, etc. sellers can complete the registration.

Both the platforms need proper documents/details to onboard the sellers – in case, the sellers fail to provide the details or supporting documents, their registration may fail.

2. Verification Process

Once the sellers complete the registration from their end, Flipkart/Amazon starts the verification process. It can take 1-15 days. There can be an audit as well and sellers not passing the audit will not be onboarded.

In both platforms, a seller can re-register if their first registration is rejected.

3. Seller Dashboard

The sellers who get the confirmation from Flipkart can access Flipkart Seller Hub. Amazon's seller portal is known as Amazon Seller Central India. Both dashboards are simply designed and give a handful of details to the sellers at once.

From these dashboards, sellers can access everything of their seller profile; however, the Amazon seller dashboard gives a few more tools so that the sellers get a quick picture of their status right from the dashboard.

4. Product Listing

SFlipkart’s initial product listing was a little bit complicated; but now, it is almost similar to Amazon’s listing. In both, the sellers get two types of listings – sellers can either match with the existing product or they can list the product manually.

5. Advertisements

The greatest differences between Flipkart and Amazon lie right here. Amazon’s ad campaigns are very promising – the sellers can expect double sales and exposure after investing in ads. For the ad payments, Amazon uses a credit-based system.

On the other hand, Flipkart ads narrow down such scopes because there are restrictions on the sellers for bidding, ad moderation, and promotion. Sellers have to deposit money in Flipkart wallet to run ads.

From this perspective, Amazon is a winner.

6. Fulfillment

Amazon comes with 3 types of fulfillment – Easy ship, Self-ship and Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA).

Easy Ship and Fulfilled by Amazon are pretty similar – the only difference is the sellers have to store the items until Amazon picks and delivers them during Easy Ship. During FBA, amazon stores the product and delivers it. Rests are the same.

Flipkart has two fulfillments: fulfillment by Flipkart, and Non-fulfillment by Flipkart.

Here, also Amazon is a bit more flexible as sellers get complete relief on choosing FBA.

7. Paying The Sellers

Both sites pay the sellers within 7-10 days of the purchase after deducting all the applicable charges.

8. User Experience

Flipkart has no doubt worked on its user experience and improved it over the years; yet, Amazon’s user experience is classy and unmatched. Even though the sites are almost identical, Amazon is fast and simple which results in a slightly better user experience.

9. Customer Care

Here, also Amazon is a winner because of its prompt and accurate response. Flipkart needs to improve it to give a neck-to-neck fight to Amazon.

10. Supported Payment Methods

Both platforms support all types of card payments, UPI, CoD, Pay Later, etc. options so that customers can transact without any trouble.

11. Miscellaneous

Amazon has entered the grocery/quick commerce market with Amazon Fresh. Flipkart fights it back with Flipkart Groceries. Amazon is slightly ahead with its OTT and Amazon Pay which Flipkart may soon catch up.

So, Flipkart or Amazon - Where Should You Sell?

Amazon, despite being a global brand, beats Flipkart in some categories; however, it does not mean Flipkart is not that profitable. Both are having decent year-on-year growth and after the pandemic, both almost grew twice; yet there is no option to deny that if the seller has to choose anyone, they can go for Amazon. Amazon gives a global expansion possibility too.

Sellers must aim for both Amazon and Flipkart to make the most out of their business. In case they have to start with one, Amazon is good to start with sufficient profitability. No matter where you start, be sure to integrate a payment gateway for fast and secure payments.
